Creativity

At the very heart of Simon’s workshop and practice, creativity is the core.

Whilst we live in a digital world, Simon takes pride in a more analogue creative process. Models are used, templates cut out and pieces lined up in groups. Each new series of work will spend time on the tables whilst the fine details are resolved.

The notion that glass is a fluid material is a fundamental attribute of the medium to Simon. In the workshop discussion centres around a line, a mark, or shape, which all must have 'material tension'. Simon’s mantra is "there's nothing worse than an overworked piece of glass". Shapes must be made with this in mind, allowing a fresh and uncomplicated character and soul. Whilst decoration is used, the marks must be uncomplicated and are acceptable only if they are fluid and allied to the form.
